Temporary Closure of the Shire Valley Transformation Programme (SVTP) Construction Site in Chikwawa

The Shire Valley Transformation Programme would like to inform the general public of the temporary closure of the SVTP site in Chikwawa.  The closure will be for a period of 14 days from 1st July, 2021.  The site has registered 29 cases of COVID-19 (16 expatriates and 13 local staff).

The closure is one of the measures for managing the spread of the virus considering the nature of the works and to give room for recovery of the affected employees.  Mass testing was conducted for all staff members and those affected are under isolation.

The following measures have been put in place to control the spread of COVID-19:

  • Construction works and all office work have been suspended for 14 days;
  • Mass testing of staff members has been undertaken and all affected staff members are under isolation;
  • Offices and contractor apartments will be disinfected accordingly;
  • All staff members have been advised to wear masks, wash hands and exercise caution during the period of closure in order to control the spread of the virus in the community;
  • All staff members including visitors will continue to exercise compliance to COVID-19 preventive measures once operations resume at the offices and at the construction site.
