SVTP Phase 1 Objectives
The first phase of the program (SVTP-I) will initiate the process of transformation of the Shire Valley and pave the way for agricultural commercialization. The Objectives are:
- To provide access to reliable gravity fed irrigation services
- Secure land tenure for smallholder farmers
- Strengthen management of wetlands and protected areas
SVTP Phase II objectives
The second phase of the SVTP will develop irrigated commercial agriculture and strengthen the management of natural resource in the Programme area. Specifically, the Programme will:
- Increase agricultural productivity in targeted smallholder-owned commercial farm enterprises
- Support value chain and value addition;
- Extend area supported with irrigation and farm development;
- Continue and expand efforts to address land degradation and sustainable management of forests, wetlands and protected areas.
SVTP Phase III Objectives
The indicative objectives for the Third phase will be:
- Continue to increase agricultural productivity in targeted smallholder-owned commercial farm enterprises
- Continue to support value chain and value addition;
- Continue to extend area supported with irrigation and farm development;
- Continue to expand efforts to address land degradation and sustainable management of forests, wetlands and protected areas.
